High-altitude coffee growing produces distinctly different flavors from lower-altitude cultivation, and at Haiku Brew Coffee, we specifically seek out high-altitude beans for their superior quality. Coffee grown at higher elevations typically develops more slowly due to cooler temperatures, allowing more time for complex sugars and flavor compounds to develop within the beans.
Most of our premium offerings come from farms situated between 1,500 and 2,100 meters above sea level, where the challenging growing conditions result in denser beans with more concentrated flavors. These high-altitude coffees typically display brighter acidity, more pronounced sweetness, and clearer flavor notes compared to their lower-grown counterparts. The stress of high-altitude growing also tends to produce smaller, denser beans that roast more evenly and develop more complex flavor profiles.
The relationship between altitude and quality is so significant that we include growing elevation information on all our single-origin offerings, helping you understand what makes each coffee special. You'll often find our high-altitude selections feature distinct characteristics like citrus brightness, floral aromatics, and crystal-clear flavor notes that set them apart from ordinary coffees.
