Indonesian coffees hold a special place in the specialty coffee world, and at Haiku Brew Coffee, we carefully select lots that showcase the best of what this diverse origin has to offer. Our Indonesian selections come primarily from Sumatra and Sulawesi, where traditional processing methods create unique flavor profiles not found anywhere else in the coffee-growing world.
The wet-hulled process, known locally as "Giling Basah," is unique to Indonesia and contributes to the distinctive character of these coffees. Our Sumatran offerings, particularly those from the Aceh region, display the classic full body and complex earthy notes that make Indonesian coffees famous, while also featuring unexpected bright fruits and sweet herbs when roasted carefully. These coffees perform exceptionally well in both filter coffee and espresso applications.
We also feature more experimentally processed Indonesian lots, including fully washed and honey processed coffees that showcase different aspects of Indonesian terroir. These coffees often surprise with their clean, bright profiles while maintaining the full body and deep sweetness characteristic of Indonesian coffee. The high growing elevations and volcanic soils contribute to the development of complex sugars that provide a sweet foundation for these unique flavor profiles.
