How to Store Coffee Beans: Maximizing Freshness and Flavor

Proper storage is crucial for maintaining coffee freshness, and at Haiku Brew Coffee, we want to help you get the most out of every bag. The four main enemies of coffee freshness are air, moisture, heat, and light - all of which can quickly degrade your coffee's flavor and aroma compounds if not properly managed.

We recommend storing your beans in an airtight container away from direct sunlight, at room temperature. While many people store coffee in the refrigerator or freezer, this can actually expose the beans to moisture and unwanted odors that affect their flavor. Our bags feature one-way valves that release CO2 while preventing oxygen from entering, but once opened, transferring the beans to an opaque, airtight container is ideal.

For the best results, buy only enough coffee to last 2-3 weeks and keep it in an environment between 68-77°F (20-25°C). This ensures you're always brewing with fresh beans at their peak flavor potential. While properly stored coffee won't "go bad," its flavors will gradually fade over time, making fresh coffee essential for the best possible cup.
